As Homer Simpson would say:”mmmmmm…. brunnnchh!”
Sometimes, I want to be like those couples who brunch at cafes on a regular basis. When it comes to weekends, my beloved and I are more like a hermit crab than a trendy couple who brunch in cool spots. There were times my head says “let’s do brunch outside today”, but my heart says let’s curl up in pyjamas and stay in bed all day.
So what usually happens is we overindulge with the time spent on our phones in bed: my beloved catching up on his favourite tech review channels on Youtube; and me catching up on vlogs. Yep, you are looking at one of the ten signs of old married couple syndrome right here ha!
One fine morning, we finally took our lazy bums off the bed and ventured out to a cafe too far from our gastropod shell house. Street Talk Espresso is located in one of my favourite suburbs in Melbourne – Armadale. I love to breathe in the air of trendiness in the area, filled with fashion and bridals shops as well as eclectic giftware shops.
We were welcomed by the warmth and cosines of exposed red brick from the moment we stepped into Street Talk Espresso. You have a choice of seating inside, outside, foot path or in the courtyard. It was a beautiful sunny day when we were there so we chose the courtyard, in an attempt to soak up every last bit of warmth and sunshine before the chill of Melbourne winter really hit us.
{FYI – Street Talk Espresso roasts their own coffee}
First thing first, coffee!
Soy cappuccino was my drink of choice to kick start my day and what’s to come!
{Gluten Free Carrot Cake}
{Peter Peter Pumpkin Eater Bruschetta – $18}
For those who are growing tired of avocado on toasts, Peter Peter Pumpkin Eater Bruschetta is a breath of fresh air. Topped with roast pumpkin smash, wild mushroom medley, poached eggs, coriander shoots, local charred haloumi, lemon and beurre noisette, this is one topping heavy bruschetta! And I mean it in a good way of course! It may seem like a lot is happening in the dish, all the flavours harmonised as well as the nursery rhyme.
{The Iron Mike – $17}
When I saw The Iron Mike, it made me think of a warm power salad. It consisted of sauteed cauliflower florets, green peas, yellow lentil puree, toasted chickpeas, burnt lemon, poached eggs, almond flakes and oregano salt. Another meat free and hearty brunch dish that I really enjoyed – perfectly sauteed cauliflower floret which still retained some crunch to them and there’s enough protein on the plate from the smooth and velvety lentil puree, roasted chickpeas and eggs that I did not crave for sausages on that morning.
{Chocolate Milkshake – $6}
We also caught up with a friend and her daughter when we were there. When a child is present on a sunny day, a glass of milkshake is inevitable ha!
Save the best for last? The berry muffin with Tim Tam, mascarpone and pistachio toppings was not for the faint-hearted. It makes a perfect share dessert among us 3 adults and 1 child although I must add that my friend’s daughter had most of the muffin.

I love brunch because I love to sleep in!
I love brunch because it gives me the choice of either breakfast, lunch or just a snack…. Bonus too I only eat 2 meals on these days so I get to lose weight…!!!
I love brunch because I love breakfast menu items eaten at non-breakfast-time times. What can I say, I’m a rebel like that! (Read: as usual I slept after 3am the night before, couldn’t get myself out of bed for a socially acceptable breakfast-meal time the following morning so I’m left with little option but to actually have breakfast during lunchtime). As a side note: brunch menus are the best anyway.
I love brunch because I can never choose between breakfast or lunch but this way I can have both.
